     Pakistan Faces Worrisome Environmental Issues: Panel discussion held on the Environmental Impact by Tourism at Riphah University

    Pakistan is facing worrisome environmental effects by tourism which are being caused by transport pollution, man-made pollution at tourist destination, noise pollution, visual pollution, congestion and erosion. This discussion was held at Riphah International University, Media Sciences Department, Al-Mizan Campus, Rawalpindi on 20th April 2022 on the topic ‘how tourism effects environment’. The interactive discussion panel included Hamaeel Ahmed, Muhd Badr, Farhad, Malaika, and Ayesha Zaman from BS Media Studies.

    According to Hamaeel, the environment is affected by the growing tourism all around the world. The pollution causing difficult to maintain the environment in which we all are equally part of it. We need to maintain our environment to enjoy the beauty of our land instead of creating difficulty for earth to breath. Malaika contributed to the discussion and explained the types of pollution in tourism. She was on the view that the preservance of earth should be our propriority by planning and implementation of proper measures. The different sources of pollution are required to be controlled and strict check and balance are required.

    Badr added the point of how tourism affects the land by mentioning the major problem of ‘Congestion’ and ‘Erosion’ problem to mass footfall of tourists at one specific place which causes much environmental damages. The load capacity in the recent incident of Murree causes many deaths due to surpassing the required capacity. Then, he told about the erosion in famous tourist spots all around the globe. Furthermore, the panel highlighted that how the winter sports are causing damage to our mountains and our ecosystem. Ayesha added that winter sports and skiing make cracks and causes glaciers to melt before the time. However, Farhad contributed by adding points regarding how tourism affects the coastal regions and pollutes water and it’s living creatures, He further stated that how fishing spots are causing damage to sea creatures. The panel concluded by emphasizing the value of keeping the environment clean and makeing more tourist destinations to avoid mass footfall.

    All the participants agreed that how our environment is important for our mankind and that we should keep our surrounding neat and clean when we visit such places. We have to take important measures to plan the tourist spots where government and tourists also have to act. We all have to create awareness individually as everyone must protect our environment.
