Online Self Disclosure was my first-time choice as a research topic; However, I am not that much convinced about my topic interest; recently, I read an article: "Inside Out and Outside-in: How the pandemic affects self-disclosure on Social Media" this introduces a unique perspective of Online self-disclosure, as it says this COVID 19 changes the traditional research Self-focus to other focus.in other words this pandemic situation shifts from privacy calculus to social calculus. For instance, a social media user's decision about disclosing online depended on his privacy now converts into the favor of public safety or interest.
This article raised a question, how pandemic affects users'users' decisions to disclose information on sites.
The article's very important part is the suggested list of studies with mentioned research questions that can help for future research.
It is a must-read article for new fellows in Media Research.

Writing an abstract looks predictive approach to the future research journey.
When I started writing an abstract, a lot of different concepts were just mixing. thanks to the instructor, who gave us a glimpse of the structure of writing an abstract.
According to this structure, in the very first 3 sentences, the independent variable must be introduced and also linking with the independent variable. following the same structure, I wrote the following short but incomplete Abstract so far.
Computer-mediated environments, like social networking sites, give us a platform to make online relationships which is possible through online self-disclosure. Social network sites provide a real-time platform where people often candidly self-disclose their concerns, opinions, and struggles during the Pandemic COVID-19. which has been characterized as a once in a century pandemic. During the pandemic, Social Network sites help individuals feel more socially connected during a time of...    less

I recently read a research article, "Privacy in Crisis; A study of self-disclosure during the coronavirus pandemic", according to this write-up, Text analyses reveal a topical shift toward supportiveness and support seeking in self-disclosing conversation on twitter.
In the very start of the article, scholar mentions about future studies, quoting the same, we run a comparable analysis of tweets from hurricane Harvey to provide context for observed effects and suggest opportunities for further study.
During lockdown situations, while staying at home means staying close online, the emergence of virtual playdates and book clubs suggests that during a time of social distancing, people are looking for ways to stay close (e.g.., apart but Together" campaigns.
In this Research Article, they made a comparison of Self-disclosure in routine and during a pandemic, which says there is a robust literature on (routine) self-disclosure in online social media outside the particular...    less

In the previous blog, we talked about the post corona world, where the concept of disclosing online has been changed.
Coins have two sides, the same as the case with social media, where one study says that Facebook users demonstrate a positive relationship between having health concerns and seeing health-related social support. they describe the emotional support corresponds to empathy, encouragement, and kindness, while informational support corresponds to information, guidance, and suggestions. And these mentioned supports can occur with other forms of support, such as posts seeking emotional support often seek esteem and network support.
the researchers find support seeking expressions in treatment and control datasets. With keywords like Lord, Stay safe, Fauci, ventilators, father passed.
For future research, it needs to explore the persistence of the new normal and the emergence of a possible new paradigm as the pandemic evolves, and therein the mental health...    less

The living concept of this century has been changed due to COVID-19, where a definition of online Self Disclosure is converted from personal domain to public care.
I recently read an article name; Social Media reveals psychosocial effects of the COVID-19, this article focused the people’s self-disclosure on social media in terms of symptomatic health concerns and especially expressions seeking support.
Results of this research say, during COVID 19 mental health symptomatic expressions have increased by 14%, and support seeking expressions have increased by 5%. Shocking is that the practical impact of the crisis is far greater than the actual number of infection cases or fatalities.
In this research, they gave a reference to the US, where 80% of adults use social media daily, placing ahead of texting, email, and instant messaging, and disclose considerably more about themselves online than offline.
Interestingly, one of the studies mentions, meta-analysis indicates that...    less

Some of the videos on this website were strongly recommended by the head of the department for fresh MS scholars, video 1 describes how one can select an appropriate topic to conduct research. Some points presenter in the video mentions; the first stage is to select any topic which fits your interest, then test topic with a google search, you might find a lot of work-related to your topic in the press but no scholarly research, it indicates that your topic is narrowly defined, so at this stage, you need to make changes in terms of generalizing one thing and specifying the second one, for instance, if I am researching comedy shows, I should select a particular program mentioning the specific domain of that program, then again I need to test my topic again, and it will further show 258 results of scholars previous research, in this way, further finding a unique or a research gap between
Existing knowledge to fill out by conducting future research.

Today I am not going to write a proper blog, although I just opened my laptop after a break of a week for the purpose to write my experience, how I have experienced when I start writing blogs on the bases of my reading whether it was from book, article or dissertation of Scholars.
It was a very satisfying moment for me that when I collected all my previous blogs in 13 parts and copy-pasted in one MS word file, I found 4,989 words I wrote throughout 13 days of my working days, felt an accomplishment, that yes if I wrote 5 thousand words on a topic which related to my field, gives me confidence that soon I will be able to write my research write up (no matter how much word limits it requires) with same enthusiasm and consistency.
And yes, today I m not at the same stage of confusion about my research topic, but I need to dig out more about my research interest which addresses the issues

A new dimension of information called Warranting information where the target to whom it refers is considered more valuable than information that the target has control over. People rely more heavily on warranting information than one self-descriptions because self-descriptions can deceptive.

80% of survey participants said others misrepresented themselves. For example; men add a couple of inches in their height, to attract the opposite gender.

Research shows that perceptions of individuals who created online profiles in social networking systems are influenced by the comments and attributes of postings that others leave on those profiles. And the most awakening fact is. It also affects the credibility of users.

In real life, we meet people. Then get to know them; online, we get to know someone first and then choose to meet them. This is one of the basic differences when it comes to prioritizing communication or long-term relation with someone, whether it is online or...    less

As there is a common belief everything in this universe having a purpose, or motivation behind to work or exist.

The same rule works for using CMC (Computer-Mediated communication) media, for instance, Interpersonal utility, pass time, information seeking, convenience, and entertainment are some of those factors which work as Motivation.

One of the researchers defines some of the motives behind online chatting were, entertainment, information which includes learning something, get aware of one’s environment, find economic, political, and cultural information) which lasts with making initiation and development of the interpersonal relationship.

One study concludes that the motivation of Facebook users for relationship development facilitated more self-disclosure than the motivation for relationship maintenance did. But on the other side, motivation for relational development was negatively correlated with the honesty of self-disclosure.

Gender plays a vital role if we talk about factors behind online self-disclosure.
Culture is also a driving force for the practice of self-disclosure communication by defining what is appropriate and what is not? This point for me as a fresh researcher increases the importance of cultural influence as media users. Many of us from Asian countries replicate some of the studies which are already done in the west, and the biggest gap mostly ignored is the cultural difference.

For instance, some studies say, people from the west tend to disclose more than from east people.

Age is one of the other factors behind online self-disclosure, it is the most researched and prioritized variable throughout studies, as it is a proven fact that, the huge number of users on Network sites are adult or youth. Interestingly Content analysis of Myspace profile pages found that younger users are more inclined towards open-ended self-descriptions (about me information) than other age people.

Understandings from an article, “Online Self Disclosure: a review of Research Work”. Which says, due to the features of CMC (Computer-mediated Communication) Online users have a greater opportunity for “selective Self-presentation”.

According to review, 2 out of 11 studies found online self-disclosure to be more intimate then FtF (face to face) disclosure.

One of the common practices which have been seen is that During several experimental approaches, only spontaneous self-disclosure was coded: self-disclosure response to a partner question was not coded as self-disclosures.

One of the study states FtF partners were more peripheral and intermediate than CMC.

The future researchers need to focus on whether online-self disclosure is less/equal or hyper-personal than FtF disclosure by conducting a content analysis.

To understand the concept of Online self-disclosure, we will present some of the facts from the article” Online self-disclosure: A review of Research”

Overall, in this article, the concept of Online self-disclosure has been discussed.

In Start it says, Self-disclosure is itself a phenomenon of human nature, but living in today's world, Self-disclosure in Computer-mediated communication (CMC) named as Online Self Disclosure.

This article differentiates between self-presentation and disclosure, in presentation, refers to selectively presenting aspects of oneself to control how one is perceived by others, in the disclosure which refers to revealing personal information that is generally unknown and not available from other sources,

While mentioning that self-disclosure is the vehicle of self-presentation.

Online Self Disclosure typically is to multiple people where face to face disclosure occurs in groups.

on the web, they imagine their audience as strangers, and...    less
