A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE ELECTRONIC MEDIA CONTENT RESTRICTION POLICIES IN TURKEY AND PAKISTAN
Media in general refers to “medium” i.e. means of communication or the mode of expression. Media not only plays an important role in democracy but also educates and entertains the public. Media is broadly classified into three categories:
Print media which includes newspaper, books, press releases, booklets, magazines etc.
Electronic media includes films, radio, television and cable TV etc.
New age media which can be accessed through the internet or Over the Top (OTT) platforms.
The advent and advancement in technology and availability of numerous media platforms necessitated regulatory policies to obviate chances of misuse of media activities. Now almost every country has its regulatory mechanism in place through a media watch dog.
This research is comparative study of the electronic media content restriction policies in Turkey and Pakistan, being less explored topic, by using “Content Analysis” method. The credit of this humble initiative definitely goes to Mr Rehan Hasan, HoD Media Studies, Riphah International University, who had been of great help from the onset as supervisor in analyzing various proposals and finally coming up and shaping the above mentioned final topic.
My journey from finalizing the proposal till initial research on the selected topic was though arduous due to limited availability of data and research work on the topic for analysis, the challenge proved to be a catalyst for putting in effort and exploring various avenues for data collection. Alhamdollilah, I achieved my goal of writing a proposal and getting it approved from Mr Rehan.
Hope and pray that by the end of the final semester, my thesis would come up as an informative addition to the archival data, In Shaa Allah.
