Changing minds and career

  • Changing Minds and Career

One of the most important things to realize when considering how to choose a career that suits your strengths is that you succeed based on who you are, instead of who you are not. Everyone is born with some traits that they have no control over, so you should not consider these to be limitations. Focusing on your limitations will only hinder you in finding the perfect career.

Never focus on what you cannot do while searching for a job or profession. Instead, focus on what you can do. The first step in doing so might be to take an inventory of your personal qualities, talents, interests, experience and knowledge. There are many resources out there that can help you.

Always make more than one goal. If somehow you can’t achieve any goal you should have a second choice. I interviewed Ali Malik student of bachelor’s in media studies. He has done his intermediate in FSC pre engineering. Let ask him how he changed his mind from engineering to media person.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Good afternoon! Hope all going well. How are you?

    Ali Malik: I’m fine. Thanks.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Ali! tell me about your degree? How is it?

Ali Malik: Well! Talking about my degree. It is practical based. It demands creativity.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Which thing inspired you to choose this field?

Ali Malik: Actually I love practical work and also I want to do some creative so I researched about this field then choose it as my career.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Is this was your childhood dream? Because it is quite different from other professions.

Ali Malik: No! as every child wants to be an engineer, doctor and pilot. I also wanted to be a commissioner officer. But my intermediate percentage didn’t match with the criteria of commissioner officer. So I had to choose another field for my career. I thought and researched then I choose media.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Which thing you like the most in you field?

Ali Malik: As I told you before. I love creativity so it is.

Nimra Malik Farooq: That’s amazing. Ok now tell which thing you like the least in your field?

Ali Malik: It’s time consuming and equipments are out of budget.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Which skills and abilities are essential for your field?

Ali Malik: We must know framing and adjusting of lights while shooting. We should know time managing. We should be energetic and passionate about our work.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Amazing! If you could it all over again, would you choose the same path for you? If not, then what would you choose?

Ali Malik: I will definitely choose Army (commissioner officer) as my career because it’s my dream. I want to spend my life as a patriotic.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Thank you Ali! Have a great discussion. God bless. Take care.

As we talked with Ali Malik. We came to know that one’s life doesn’t end at one time failure. We should have a second option to pursue our life goals. We should know our skills and abilities.

Strengths are often defined by the tasks or challenges that you excel in consistently. Whether you realize it or not, you have certain innate talents that you can use to your advantage. Think of what you do well in your personal life and if those talents can transfer over to a career path.

A career path should be based on what you love to do every day, instead of what you think you should love to do. You should consider why you are attracted to a certain career field. If it is for the wrong reasons (i.e., power, money, prestige), chances are you will not enjoy it or excel in it.

We have an another interviewee who is a general manager of the travel company. Let’s talk with Hina Javid. How she became a manager? How did she choose her career? What difficulties she faced in her path?

Nimra Malik Farooq: Assalam-o-Alaikum Mrs. Hina! How are you?

Hina Javid: Walaikum Salam! I’m fine Alhamdolillah.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Well, you are general manager. It’s a biggest achievement in your life. What do you feel about it?

Hina Javid: Yeah! I’m very thankful to Allah Almighty that He made me capable for this field because as a woman it is really big achievement for me to work as a manager.

Nimra Malik Farooq: What was your dream career in childhood?

Hina Javid: When I was child I even didn’t know what is managing and who is manager. I wanted to become a pilot but my parents forced me to study art subjects. So I obeyed and studied what they wanted. Then I wanted to become an accountant in bank. But unfortunately I missed my chance so I applied in one company as an accountant and luckily I received a selection letter. So I started my job. After some years I applied as a manager in travel company. Due to many years’ experience I got selection. I worked for 3 years then I got promotion to general manager.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Interesting! What do you like the most about your job?

Hina Javid: I love managing. It has value in our society or in government sectors.

Nimra Malik Farooq: What do you like the least in your job?

Hina Javid: I don’t like accounts because it is very hardworking. But being a manager I feel proud.

Nimra Malik Farooq: what difficulties do you face in your job?

Hina Javid: Managing with employees. Manager must have calmness in her/his attitude. Patience is very important. You can’t lose your temper. I think it is difficult for me.

Nimra Malik Farooq: What skills and abilities required for your job?

Hina Javid: Time managing is the most important thing in my field. Manager should have passionate about the work otherwise you can’t handle employees. Manager must have good skills in accounts.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Would you suggest anyone else about this field?

Hina Javid: Yes! Why not. I really love my job. It has value in society. At start it is difficult but with the passage of time and experience you start loving your job.

Nimra Malik Farooq: That’s really nice! If you could it all over again, would you choose the same path for you? If not, then what would you choose?

Hina Javid: Yes! probably. But as we all have multiple wishes so may be I’ll choose managing in bank. It will be happier achievement for me.

Nimra Malik Farooq: Well! It was a really amazing interview with you Hina. Thanks for your time. Take care. Good bye!

Well as we see how a woman is passionate about her job. She told us that she wanted to become a pilot but due to her parents wish she studied the subjects they wanted and now she’s working as a general manager in a company. So don’t loss hope. Work, work and work you will meet your final destination.

If somehow you don’t get selection in your dream career or you failed in any job test. Try another one. You might have some other talent or the degree you have studied has a scoop in any other field. Don’t expect every job or profession to be a perfect fit, but do realize that the position you choose should make more use of your strengths than it does your weaknesses.

Realizing you have talents is only the first step when discovering your career except your dream job. After you identify your strength, you must set a plan in action to make use of them. Create an action plan, with clear goals and expectations. Acquire the skills needed for the job and sharpen the qualifications you already have.

Decide what strengths you are going to use to obtain the career, and what strengths you will focus on once you have attained it.
